A large mixed-use development, Essex Crossing, is reshaping a major portion of Manhattan’s historic Lower East Side neighborhood. In addition to more than 1,000 new residences, a mix of condos and rentals, and 100,000 square feet of green space, there will be 350,000 square feet of office space and and another 300,000 square feet of retail space, all of which will be connected by an underground marketplace called The Market Line.
When entering One Essex Crossing, one of the five towers that comprise the complex, residents traverse a glass-enclosed bridge that features direct sightlines to the historic Essex Market and new Market Line retail area below. The residential portion of the building is set back atop a podium and built around an elevated 9,000 square-foot garden. That means its 83 units and its amenity spaces are filled with natural light and skyline views.
About one-third of the building’s residences feature private outdoor space, including the now available show flat that carries a nearly $3.1 million asking price. The 1,341-square-foot, two-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bathroom unit offers wonderful southeastern views across downtown Manhattan and beyond. The terrace has room for both eating and lounging; there’s seating for six at a teak dining table, near the BBQ, while the lounge area features a contemporary terrazzo coffee table.
Inside, the crisp contemporary look starts with wide-plank oak flooring, includes large windows, and ends with ceilings up to 10 feet high. The kitchen, with a two-level island, including a high-top parsons table, boats custom Italian cabinetry and honed dolomite marble countertops, waterfall, and backsplash. Miele appliances include a 5-burner vented gas cooktop and an oven; there’s also a concealed U-line wine refrigerator. More marble shows up in the master en suite, with radiant floors clad in Calacatta Lincoln marble.
Want to buy the place furnished? Why not? Interiors were done by ASH Staging. The living room features a boucle-fabric sofa flanked with vintage Eugenio Gerli armchairs, while an oval steel and travertine table, paired with oak and leather dining chairs, is the centerpiece of the dining are. The brass and black-bead chandelier is a contemporary design and the abstract artwork is by a local artist in Brooklyn.
As for the amenities, the private landscaped garden terrace offers multiple barbecues for residents, along with an outdoor fitness area. Two glass enclosed spaces that overlook the garden include a gym with separate yoga room, and a sun-filled residents’ lounge. There’s also a playroom for the kids.
