The police blotter is published to give readers an abridged look at criminal activity in their community and neighborhood. It is simply an illustration of what local law enforcement, funded by taxpayers, must deal with daily throughout the Española Valley.

Española Police officers, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies or State Police responded to the following calls:

Gunshot wound? Walk it off

  12:04 a.m. An Española City Police officer made a DWI arrest near the Rock Christian Center.

  12:22 a.m. A caller said younger adults on a side-by-side are driving up and down the road really fast.

  12:47 a.m. A Camino Cielo Grande caller reported a woman to whom they gave a ride is sitting in the truck and refusing to leave.

  1:04 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a woman who was sitting in the median near the Ohkay Casino because she looks beat up and has a swollen face.

  5:42 a.m. A caller said a man is lying on the side of the road near Northern New Mexico College.

  8:01 a.m. A Speedway caller reported a homeless man is yelling at customers and going through the trash.

  9:21 a.m. A Española Hospital caller said a woman fled the hospital with an IV still inserted.

  11:48 a.m. A Chili’s caller reported a woman is getting in front of traffic.

  11:49 a.m. A Walmart caller said a man is in the bushes and might be on drugs. He’s running around with a screwdriver.

  12:52 p.m. A Manzanita Drive in Chama caller reported a man pointed a gun at him.

  1:13 p.m. An Ohkay Travel Center caller said a drunk man is in front of the laundromat, asking for money and refusing to leave.

  2:28 p.m. Two callers requested a welfare check on a man sitting near the Family Dollar in Española because they said he didn’t look good.

  2:40 p.m. A North Prince Drive caller said a shirtless man is holding a screwdriver and talking to himself.  

  2:47 p.m. A caller reported they are being threatened over social media and they want to file a report.

  3:33 p.m. A Cook’s Mobile Home Park caller requested a welfare check on a neighbor with diabetic problems, who screams at random times.

  4:07 p.m. A Days Inn caller said a man is claiming to be staying in a room, but he’s not a guest and he’s refusing to leave.

  4:11 p.m. A Point S caller reported a truck pulled in fast and the driver flipped off the caller.

  4:22 p.m. A Lower San Pedro Road caller said a person is in cardiac arrest and CPR is being performed.

  4:27 p.m. A Hernandez caller reported a woman is throwing rocks at the caller’s car.

  5:49 p.m. An Allsup’s caller said a woman is harassing customers.

  6:17 p.m. A Chama caller reported her son was down by the river when someone pulled up with a gun and started acting disorderly.

  7:24 p.m. A Private Drive 1007A in Alcalde caller said an abandoned, boarded-up house is on fire.

  7:41 p.m. A Tierra Amarilla caller reported a man is lying in the middle of the road.

  8:11 p.m. A El Llano Road caller said her son is walking and saying he needs an ambulance. The son is complaining of breathing problems and loss of eyesight. Medics determined he’s suffering from withdrawals.

  9:11 p.m. A Misión y Convento caller reported a bunch of boys are fighting by the games at the fiesta.

  9:26 p.m. A Hoy Recovery caller said a man who’s not in his right mind, left in a black car.

  9:35 p.m. A Rio del Oso Street in Chama caller reported her wallet was stolen.

  9:47 p.m. A woman called and said her ex-husband showed up at the fiesta and sat next to her and her mother. She said she’s going to call the “general attorney” in DC because she has a 14-year history of harassment and the State Police aren’t doing an adequate job of handling the issue.

There was no E-911 call report received for this date.

  12:43 a.m. An Ojo Sarco caller reported her brother is drunk and trying to break her son’s windshield and get into the vehicle. She thinks he needs medical attention due to toxins from alcohol.

  1:02 a.m. A La Joya Street caller reported two men are going through a vehicle in the parking lot.

  2:10 a.m. An Española Hospital caller said a man left with an IV still in his arm.

  2:15 a.m. A Walmart caller reported a drunk man is by Wendy’s, shouting and throwing rocks at people.

  2:39 a.m. A Walmart caller said a man is shooting a gun. When police found the man who was allegedly shooting, he did not have a gun.

  7:39 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man sitting by the ditch on Fairview Lane and North McCurdy Road because he’s screaming.

  8:32 a.m. A Tortilla Flats caller reported a 40-year-old woman is having a seizure. She’s unconscious but breathing and is going through alcohol withdrawals.

  8:48 a.m. A South Paseo de Oñate caller said an elderly man wandered into the building and seems disoriented.

  9:04 a.m. A Fairview Post Office caller reported a car is parked in the “no parking” zone. When the caller confronted the man, he told her to mind her own business.

  9:53 a.m. A Mountain View Street caller said a man is turning in circles and jumping into walls.

  10:07 a.m. A McDonald’s caller reported a shirtless man is throwing rocks at cars and blocking traffic in the drive-thru.

  10:24 a.m. A South Orchard Lane caller said he hears echoes of shots being fired and knows they aren’t fireworks.

  10:26 a.m. A caller reported a car is parked at the corner of Calle Chacoma Vista and North McCurdy Road and the caller knows the people inside are up to no good because the windows are blacked out and the shades are up.

  10:39 a.m. A Pinch Penny Laundromat caller said a man was threatening to damage the machines and she wants him dispersed from the property.

  11:44 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a woman at the Rock Christian Fellowship, who’s talking to herself and standing at the edge of the road.

  11:51 a.m. A Lowe’s Home Improvement caller said a man trying to steal merchandise pulled a knife on him.

  12:09 p.m. A San Pedro Sonic caller reported power lines are hanging.

  12:17 p.m. A Burger King caller said a man and woman are doing drugs behind the dumpsters.

  12:39 p.m. A White Swan Road in Ohkay Owingeh caller reported her niece is causing a disturbance.

  1:13 p.m. A Do or Dye Hair Salon caller reported a man is there, claiming he has an appointment, but he doesn’t. He doesn’t want to leave and it appears he’s under the influence of something.

  1:29 p.m. A Santa Cruz Post Office caller said a car is swerving all over the road and driving on the wrong side of the road.

  1:37 p.m. An Ash Loop caller reported her garage was broken into and a gun case and several baskets were taken.

  2:06 p.m. An Allsups caller said a group of panhandlers are there and refusing to leave. They’re crowding the entrance.

  2:37 p.m. An Old Hospital Road caller reported the neighbor’s son is wrecking his mother’s house.

  3:13 p.m. Someone flagged down an officer at Fairview Lane and North McCurdy Road because they claimed someone was either shot or stabbed. Police could not find the victim.

  3:25 p.m. A detention officer at the Española Detention Center reported an inmate tried to escape.

  8:35 p.m. A caller on County Road 379 in the U.S. Forest said she was on her way to California and her GPS took her down a road and she got stuck in the mud.

  11:14 p.m. A Speedway caller reported a woman is getting high on the side of the building.

  11:19 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a group of teens at Ranchitos Park because they’re physically fighting.

  12:56 a.m. A caller reported two men are trying to break into Burger King and are armed with pipes.

  1:18 a.m. A Santa Clara Apartments caller said there’s drug activity by the playground; there’s several people around one car and someone is honking the horn.

  3:47 a.m. An Allsups caller said people in front of the store are jumping on the refrigerators.

  6:44 a.m. A Bellas Lane caller reported someone parked in a car is using drugs at the drug dealer’s house.

  9 a.m. A Calle Redonda caller said a man is passed out on the curb and she wants him to leave.

  10:06 a.m. An Eagle Village Apartments caller reported a man climbed 30-feet up a tree and told the caller he was sexually assaulted and won’t get out of the tree.

  10:23 a.m. A Tesuque Drive caller said her husband is outside and is drunk, playing loud music and harassing her.

  10:35 a.m. A Del Norte Credit Union caller reported a member brought a counterfeit bill into the bank and wanted to know if it was fake.

  1:51 p.m. An Española School Administration caller wants to file a report for child abuse.

  6:51 p.m. A Walmart caller said a customer hit her with a cart.

  6:51 p.m. A Paseo de Paulina caller reported her younger brother is on drugs and wants money for more drugs and he’s arguing with her.

  7:44 p.m. An East Roman Drive caller said her boyfriend hit her with a camera.

  8:57 p.m. A caller reported employees at El Rey Liquors sold her drunk husband more liquor and she wants to speak with an officer about it.

  9:03 p.m. A Las Lomas Apartments caller said three girls had an eight-year-old girl pinned down and when she told them to let her go, they jumped her.

  10:15 p.m. A Wendy’s caller reported people by the dumpster are shooting up.

  10:34 p.m. A Walmart caller said a woman drove up to the caller and threw a drink at her and pulled out a knife.

  11:24 p.m. A Santa Clara Apartments caller reported people are playing loud music and cooking in the hallway.

  3:02 a.m. A Ghost Ranch caller said a person is missing in the wilderness.

  5:25 a.m. A caller at Calle Sandoval and North Railroad Avenue reported a woman is vomiting blood because she was drinking.

  5:46 a.m. A Murphy’s Express caller said they found a pistol by pump #10. Police determined it was a broken piece of a gun.

  6:33 a.m. A Northern New Mexico College caller reported a homeless person is in the main building.

  7:40 a.m. A Sacred Heart Church caller said a man is passed out in the gazebo at the cemetery.

  7:58 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man at Cook’s Mobile Home Park, who appears to have a broken leg.

  8:27 a.m. An El Rito caller said someone cut 10 inches of hair off her horse’s tail.

  9:26 a.m. A caller reported finding a Los Alamos Bank bag on top of the ATM across from Chili’s. He said there’s a phone and other items in the bag and wants to turn them over to the police. Police determined there was a phone and a bunch of paraphernalia in the bag.

  9:37 a.m. A Speedway caller reported the front door was damaged.

  9:42 a.m. An Old Hospital Road caller said a young man of color is yelling and cursing at everybody. The caller couldn’t give a description of the man’s clothing because he said he was not trying to make eye contact with him.

  9:46 a.m. A State Road 76 in Chimayó caller reported she was side-swiped as she was trying to make a turn.

  9:50 a.m. A Speedway caller said she needs help, but wouldn’t explain what was going on. An employee got on the phone and said a woman is bleeding from the face.

  10:54 a.m. A Dollar General in Hernandez caller reported a homeless man is hitting the trash and threatening employees with a stick.

  10:56 a.m. A Hernandez caller said the neighbor’s children went to her house and told her they were going to cut down her tree.

  11:27 a.m. A County Road 92 in Chimayó caller requested a welfare check on a man who was supposed to meet her in town, but now he’s not answering his phone. She went to his house and he’s not opening the door and all the windows and doors are locked and his vehicles are there. Police determined the man was fine, he was just sleeping.

  12:25 p.m. A West Sanchez Street caller said her boyfriend went to her house and is fighting with her and her friend. He’s throwing chairs and trying to hit them.

  1:08 p.m. An O’Reilly’s employee reported several homeless people are loitering in front of their building.

  1:14 p.m. A Rutheron caller said while they were sitting in traffic in a construction zone, a truck drove by and kicked up rocks, which chipped their windshield.

  2:53 p.m. A Private Drive 1062 in Alcalde caller said her sister is there and starting problems. She said they got into a physical fight. There were no deputies available to respond to the call.

  3 p.m. A Walgreens caller reported two African American women are asking customers for money in exchange for sex.

  3:40 p.m. A Villa del Norte Apartments caller said her patio furniture was stolen.

  4:56 p.m. A La Joya Street caller reported a man is riding around on a bicycle and creeping people out.

  5:05 p.m. A Kentucky Fried Chicken caller said men are in the bathroom smoking crack. They threatened to beat up the caller if she makes them leave.

  7:03 p.m. An Avenida Cañada caller reported a man on a motorcycle is ripping up the area and wants to fight people.

  7:22 p.m. A West Winesap Drive caller said a 53-year-old man is having a seizure, possibly from drinking.

  8:17 p.m. A County Road 93 in Chimayó caller reported they were outside, getting fresh air, when a battered man approached them.

  10:20 p.m. A Walmart caller said a man is in the restroom and has been hiding in there since the store closed.

  2:05 a.m. An Allsup’s caller reported someone broke the windows at the store and on his vehicle.

  4:03 p.m. A Calle Redonda caller said a 33-year-old man who uses narcotics and drinks is having chest pain.

  10:29 a.m. A Truchas caller reported his license plate was stolen.

  11:35 a.m. A caller said someone in a pickup truck near Del Norte Credit Union was taking shots with his passenger.

  11:59 a.m. A Calle Olivas caller reported a man pointed a handgun at him, after the caller went to the man’s house to retrieve items that were stolen from him.

  12:07 p.m. A White Swan Road in Ohkay Owingeh caller said a man looks beat up.

  12:51 p.m. A caller said a man is carrying a rifle and walking near Taos Lane and Fairview Lane.

  12:59 p.m. A North Monterey Lane caller reported her 31-year-old daughter was beaten up.

  1:49 p.m. A Caballo Quino Drive caller said the people at the last house are selling drugs.

  2:44 p.m. A Valley Drive caller reported someone is flying a drone in the area and her daughter and other children are swimming in the pool and she doesn’t want them spied on.  

  3:35 p.m. A Birch Lane caller reported her husband is passed out and throwing up. Narcan was administered because the man was overdosing.

  3:39 A Fairview Flowers caller said a man is unconscious and overdosing.

  4:07 p.m. A Dollar General caller in Española reported a man is under the influence and is passed out near the entrance.

  4:16 p.m. A Lowe’s Home Improvement caller said two female employees got into a physical fight and one got pushed down and hit her head on the concrete.

  4:28 p.m. A Southwest Cannabis caller reported a 33-year-old woman felt dizzy and fell over. She’s slowly regaining consciousness.

  4:39 p.m. A Burger King caller said an ex-employee went inside and threatened to shoot them.

  4:58 p.m. A Lucero Center caller reported a man is smoking in front of the doors and it stinks.

  6:12 p.m. A Velarde caller said a dog is hanging from the fence, like someone killed it.

  7:09 p.m. A Calle Redonda caller reported a woman is yelling that her boyfriend bit her.

  7:36 p.m. A Third Street in Chama caller said she heard an explosion and now the power is out.

  7:50 p.m. An officer stopped to check on a drunk man at El Rey Liquors.

  8:16 p.m. A Bond House caller reported a group of vehicles are getting ready to drag race in the area.

  8:19 p.m. A Freddy’s Frozen Custard caller said a woman is bugging customers.

  8:23 p.m. A Cook’s Mobile Home Park caller reported the neighbors are arguing outside.

  8:45 p.m. An Alcalde caller said his wallet was stolen.

  9:08 p.m. An Avenida Cañada caller requested a welfare check on a man who’s passed out in front of the building.

  10:22 p.m. A Fairview Lane caller said a man is walking back and forth on her property and acting crazy.

  10:36 p.m. A Food King caller reported about a dozen vehicles are doing donuts in the parking lot.

  11:28 p.m. An Upper San Pedro Road caller said a drunk driver hit his fence.

  11:43 p.m. A Fairview Lane caller reported her daughter pulled a knife on her and told her to get out.

  11:50 p.m. A Speedway caller said a woman threw change at her.

  1:55 a.m. A caller reported her drunk daughter dropped her off from the casino, then drove back to the casino.

  7 a.m. A Lower San Pedro Road caller said her child’s father trashed the apartment and fled.

  7:41 a.m. A Milagro Village Mobile Home Park caller reported there’s a man in the bushes next to the playground.

  8:30 a.m. An Allsup’s caller said a bald man with a screwdriver tried to break into one of the employee’s vehicles.

  11:44 a.m. A Vista Place caller reported a gas line was hit while work was being done on a vacant house.

  12:16 p.m. A Calle del Rio caller called dispatch and began cussing them out, saying nothing gets done and he’s going to start killing people if nothing gets done.

  2:07 p.m. A Paleta Bar caller said a man has been in the restroom for 20 minutes and might be doing drugs.

  2:24 p.m. A Camino Cielo Grande caller requested a welfare check on a man lying in the middle of the road.

  4:27 p.m. A Las Lomas Apartments caller said his vehicle was vandalized. He thinks someone may have cut the oil hose at the bottom.

  6:07 p.m. A Garden Loop caller reported her two grandsons are trying to fight with her and her husband. One pulled a knife on them and took off running to the ditch.

  6:31 p.m. An Ohkay Owingeh caller said she was putting gas in her car and her dog jumped out of the car and is now running in and out of traffic.

  7:01 p.m. A State Road 76 in Chimayó caller reported a man is violating his restraining order and the conditions of his release.

  8:44 p.m. An Española Hospital caller said a man is being disorderly and has drugs on him.

  9:12 p.m. An Ojo Caliente caller reported his neighbor threatened him with a gun.

  10:45 p.m. A Darrin’s Place caller said three people need to be removed because they’re harassing security staff.

  10:47 p.m. An El Llano Road caller reported a 50-year-old woman is choking on popcorn.

  11:05 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a couple near the East Santa Clara Bridge Road and Lower San Pedro Road because the man tried to push the woman into the road.

  11:31 p.m. A Private Drive 1009 in Alcalde caller said there’s loud music playing most of the day.

  12:13 a.m. A Vista del Valle caller reported they can see a lighter going back and forth in a vehicle and they think the people inside are doing drugs.

  1:04 a.m. A Las Lomas Apartments caller said he caught two men trying to get into his apartment.

  2:39 a.m. An officer was flagged down and told that two men are drinking in front of the Española Pathways Shelter.

  3:12 a.m. A Camino Cielo Grande caller said a drunk woman is outside, yelling and running down the road.

  6:53 a.m. A North Riverside Drive caller reported a woman is stealing items from her yard.

  8:06 a.m. An East Don Filigonio Street caller said every time he walks in the area, a man throws rocks at and harasses him.

  8:28 a.m. A Calle Redonda caller said someone stole both her bikes. One is a tricycle, the other is a mountain bike.

  9:31 a.m. A Walmart caller reported someone ran out the fire exit door and jumped in a car, then drove to the back of the store.

  10:48 a.m. A Calle del Rio caller requested courtesy rounds, but wouldn’t say why. He told dispatchers, “do courtesy rounds so I don’t have to cuss you guys out.”

  11:58 a.m. An El Llano Road and West Shadowood Lane caller said five people are in the area and one man has a gun.

  12:01 p.m. A man wants to file a report because he was jumped yesterday at the Delta.

  12:07 p.m. A Calle Olivas caller said a woman is at the house and is harassing the caller and his family.

  1:17 p.m. A County Road 48 in Alcalde caller reported a man assaulted her husband.

  1:26 p.m. A down power line was reported in Velarde.

  1:59 p.m. A Lindrith caller wants to speak with a deputy about ongoing harassment that’s getting worse.

  4:51 p.m. A caller at Ohkay Tribal Lakes reported his daughter is in the water and is drowning.

  5:49 pm. An Ohkay Casino caller said maintenance turned in a container with a lot of crystal-like substance in it.

  7 p.m. A caller reported a big fight at Union Hall.

  11:09 p.m. A State Road 76 in Chimayó caller said a person in a car shot at a house and did donuts in the yard.
